IMIJRI is a project of Australian multi-instrumental husband and wife duo, James and Michelle Byrne. With world-folk roots and a heart-felt approach, their uplifting songs are characterised by gorgeously balanced vocal harmonies and diverse sounds that touch the heart and soul. Capturing imagery from the vastness of the Nullarbor, to the tribal rhythms of Birdsong, hear their stories unfold...
Mandolin, harmonica and guitar are blended with the beautiful sounding combination of Cosmic Tone tuned drum (Handmade by James) and Woodskin Cajon drum (made in Queensland).
IMIJRI have a wealth of musical experience to draw from. As a solo artist, James has performed and busked his way around the country. With his unique ability to capture your attention, he promotes awareness towards humanity’s place within the circle of life. Michelle’s musical background includes formal study in music- in particular voice and drums, sound therapy and 20 years of experience collaborating with local, interstate and international artists. She has performed in Australia, the UK and USA.
Michelle and James have been creating music together since 2008. Their world-folk EP ‘Intimate Universal Encounter’, was recorded under their previous name of 'The Wandering Minstrels'. Highlights for the duo include being invited performers on the Ghan and the Indian Pacific Railways, as well as grass roots performances in the beautiful surrounds of leafy Willunga in South Australia.
